Filipino Alphabet

Hey what's up you guys!? Okay, so I am currently making some drawings to post for the Pinoy alphabet but that could take a while. soooo... in the meantime i found some videos on youtube that i thought would be cool to share.

The two vids are of the different renditions of the Pinoy alphabet. The first is video is the "A Ba Ka Da" song which is the traditional Filipino alphabet. The second video is the more western influenced "Alpabetong" song which is more of the norm in today's Pinoy school system. enjoy! and don't forget to sing along!

more colors aka kulay

Well here are some more colors that i made over the weekend.
I could have made more but I was watching my nieces for the weekend. Which was great cos not only are they a riot but I also got a chance to test out the blog on them. As i figured they weren't really that into the numbers. I should have given the links thumbnails to entice them with pictures. The colors on the other hand were great. they had fun learning the new names and the pictures helped them associate the actual color with the new vocab. Although, I doubt they would have learned any of it without my guidance. Which is really a knock on my blog rather than them because they are little geniuses =)

Thus I had just installed more RAM on my computer and installed Dreamweaver today. Hopefully sometime this month i can learn how to make a website that would be more interactive than a simple blog. The more the kids can interact, the better. but for now a simple blog will have to do... but they did learn from it so as far as I know I'm on the right track.

a splash of color

Hoy!

back again i see. Well, since the last post i noticed something around here at fil-am-fam... and that was a lack of color in the blog. I mean that banner i made is fine and dandy and what have you... but there could be more. Y'know you can't really have a blog that concerns the Philippines and not have color. It's like going through a whole day without having atleast one meal with rice! It just doesn't feel right.

The Philippine islands are extremely rich with tropical plants and animals thus making it one of the more colorful countries in Asia. So in today's post let me add some life to this blog with some color and hopefully help you learn their Pinoy names as well.

Well that's it for now. ! will add more colors throughout the week. So come back soon!

pinoy numbers

Hi there,

well as promised here is the first installment of many tools to help kids (and i guess adults too) learn a few things about their Filipino culture. Let's start things off by learning the numbers. . . Pinoy-style.

I'm a bit new to the ways of blogger so please excuse my posts if they aren't as hip as the other bloggers out there but soon enough this place will be so cool you can make halo-halo out of it. . . ummm alright . . . no that probably didn't help any. Okay on to the numbers before i make things worse :)

kumusta!

Hello,

welcome to Fil-Am-Fam aka Filipino-American- Family. My name is Ken. I was born in the Philippines and raised in the USA. This blog is something im trying out to help Filipino Americans learn some things about their Filipino culture and heritage as they grow up in the US. I was basically inspired one day by my nieces who are 5 and 7 yrs old and are half Filipino and half Irish American. I was amazed at how smart they were with technology and how easily at such a young age could operate a computer (both desktop and laptop). They really only use the computer to play games on websites directed for children. So i thought if they could play and learn on a computer why not do the same but have them learn about their culture on the side. So that is my goal. to make something fun and educational that will benefit not only my nieces but other Fil-Am kids that are curious about their Lola's side of the family.

things that i hope to post soon:

  • Numbers in Tagalog
  • Alphabet with example words in Tagalog
  • videos on how to pronounce words in Tagalog
  • printable coloring book of Filipino culture
  • children songs in Tagalog (not sung by me- thank goodness)
  • and whatever else i can think of that would benefit the kids
